ERCs are banked, district-certified reductions created when a facility permanently reduces or eliminates a source of pollution — a shut-down boiler, a discontinued rice-straw burn, a closed plant. Agricultural operations, family trusts, manufacturers, and utilities across California hold certificates, many of them for decades, with no easy way to find a buyer.
District registries record who holds what, but they do not advertise credits for sale or route buyers to holders. Buyers with a permit deadline rarely know the registry exists, let alone which holder to call. The result is a thin, private market where credits sit unused and buyers overpay for the few they can find.
Holders and brokers post banked certificates at no charge. Each listing is verified against the district registry before it goes live, shows volumes by pollutant, and routes buyer inquiries directly to you or your broker. You set your own price or leave it open to offers. When a sale closes, the purchase is documented in a purchase agreement and the issuing district records the transfer.
